False Friends in Spanish

Many times when you don’t know a word in Spanish you can make a logical guess as to what it is.
If you see the word “problema” you can assume it means problem. If you see the word “telefono” you can assume it means telephone. If you see the word “interacción” you can assume it means interaction.
However, something you need to be aware of when you are learning Spanish is that there are words that appear similar to ones in English though in fact have a completely different meaning.
If you see the word “éxito”, it doesn’t mean exit. It actually means success! More >

Grammar – Gramática
Remember that in Spanish the adjective (describing word) goes after the noun (the thing it describes)
Casa pequeña = Small house
Also the adjective needs to have the same gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural).
Casa pequeña = Small house (singular) Casas pequeñas = Small houses (plural)
Barco pequeño = Small boat (singular) Barcos pequeños = Small boats (plural)

Significado:
Se dice si alguien recibe un regalo, no hay que buscarle defectos ni criticar lo recibido por el contrario, hay que agradecer y admirar el regalo, porque simplemente no lo compraste.
Ejemplo: La novia de mi primo me regaló para mi cumpleaños una cartera blanca con fucsia y dorado, además tenía unos adornos brillantes, obviamente no me gustó, pero agradecí cordialmente el regalo, total a caballo regalado no se le miran los dientes.

En Chile, la caja no solo significa que es un recipiente de diferentes tamaños que sirve para guardar cosas, sino que también, es el nombre que se da al lugar en el que pagas algo que compras o pagas tu cuenta directamente.
Quizás el nombre que se atribuye a la caja viene del significado original “sirve para guardar algo” que en este caso es dinero o “la plata”.
En la foto por ejemplo, si compras un kilo de longanizas (tipo de salchicha), las pides en el mostrador y las pagas en la caja.
